"Special thanks to all the ones over the past years of my illness who
called, visited, sent cards and gifts to brighten my day. You were
loved and appreciated for making these days special"
Eddie
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on
the realities of heaven, where Christ sists in the place of honor at Gods
right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in
God. When Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world,
your will share in all his glory.
Colossians 3:14

Eddie Thornton was born on August 17, 1936 in Daville, VA to William Edward
Thorton and Claudine Bridges Thornton. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was married to Lois Lee on December 17, 1960. He was the father of three
children. He retired from GTE after 25 years of devoted service. He enjoyed
teaching his Sunday school class, but the highlight of his life was the mission trips
to China, Russia, Belarus and Honduras where he led many to Christ. His
greatest pleasure was being surrounded by his family..children and grandchildren.
Diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma Cancer in December of 2004, he fought a
courageous battle for three years and three months with his faith in Christ and the
love of his family. He drew his last breath on March 20, 2008 at 11:14 pm while
at home, with his family around him. He leaves to those who love him many
precious memories of times shared together.
What God Hath Done
God took the strength of the might oak,
The steadfastness of the mountains tall,
The warmth of the rising sun-
He used them one and all.
He took endurance from the hardy pine,
Love vast as the rolling sea,
Peace from the mountain stream,
And the heart of the dogwood tree.
He took from spring her promise,
From summer the beauty of life,
Courage from the winter's struggle,
And added faith to meet the strife.
He took the soul of the twilight hour,
The rich mellowness of the fall,
The depth of the quiet lake,
And the mystery of the wild bird's call.
A father God molded from these things
To lead each home aright,
Down the path the Savior trod,
Out of the darkness into light.
